VPN. VPN stands for "virtual private network." It is a secure way to gain access to UMass Boston resources that are usually only available on campus. The UMass Boston VPN service is available to UMass Boston faculty and staff (students require a faculty sponsor) and is strictly for university-related business. The university uses a VPN server to give users the ability to access network shares and university systems from off-campus locations. To use the VPN, a user must have a valid UMassD Logon. How to set up VPN software. To use VPN, you must download the client software for your computer. VPN allows you to create a secure connection to the UMass private network over the Internet using UMass provided software.
